RUGBY AND DISTRICT BRIDGE LEAGUE
Friendly competition in duplicate bridge for local teams Rugby is a market town in a corner of Warwickshire, with easy access from surrounding towns and villages in Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. The aim of our league is to provide friendly competition in duplicate bridge for local teams . Matches are usually hosted by individual team members in their own homes. Four individuals from each team make a match. Teams usually chose from between 6 to 8 members, but there is no limit as long as the players are registered with the league fixtures secretary. See the Application Form for next Season's registration. Enquiries about entering a team should be made to the fixtures secretary, Christine Cooper, by telephoning 01788 810553 LATEST RESULTS

RUGBY & DISTRICT BRIDGE LEAGUE2008-9 SEASONPlease note that the Fixtures meeting will be held on Monday, 8th September 2008 at 7.30 p.m. at Clifton Townsend Memorial Hall. If as a team secretary you are unable to attend the meeting, it is hoped that you will be able to contact the other secretaries in your division to arrange your League matches prior to 8th September 2008. If you, or a substitute, is unable to attend the meeting, please let Chris Cooper have your dates prior to the meeting. You can then let her have the dates for the Cup Competitions as soon as possible after that date. Chris will need your fixture dates at the end of the Fixtures meeting so that she can complete her calendar with all the dates. As a reminder, the first numbered match in each fixture will be playing their home match. However, if this causes a problem, by agreement with the other team, these can be played the other way around. Please note that the home team usually plays on their preferred night. If you find you have problems in playing your match on the agreed date, then the match must be rearranged within 14 days (although the match itself can be played any time before 15th May). Please let Chris know as soon as possible if a match has been rearranged. All matches must be played by 15th May 2009, but if there is a problem please refer to the Committee. We will draw the teams for the two Cup competitions at the Fixtures Meeting. This not only shows a “fair” draw but also, hopefully, makes it more interesting. Chris will issue the completed draw to all teams after the meeting. For the Handicap competition, please note your handicap and also your opponents’. The Handicap competition will be played between 10th September and 31 December 2008 with the final being played by 30th April 2009 and the Knockout competition will be played between 1st January and 30th April 2009 (although anyone wishing to play the first round of the Knockout competition prior to 2009 may do so with the agreement of the other team). Although we have lost one team, we have two new teams this season. In accordance with the Rules they are placed in the second division, and for handicapping purposes are placed at the top of the division (see Rule 14.1b). Please remember that all players are requested to have a completed convention card with them and the card should be identical for the two partners. There have been some adverse comments about convention cards, but if, for example, two players are playing together for the first time, then they have to agree their system and this can be done by simply ticking the relevant place on the card. If there is a query during the evening, then the Director can refer to the convention card. All Home teams must have a copy of the Orange Book and the Law Book at their matches. Please contact Janet Chappell if you require a copy. Chris has copies of the summary of changes to the Laws which came into effect on 1st August 2008. It would be helpful if Team Secretaries nominated a deputy who could liaise with other teams in the event of the Team Secretary’s absence. Chris would be grateful if secretaries could give her a name by the time of the Fixtures Meeting
